Chatton and The Old Manse is the perfect base for exploring North Northumberland (also known as the 'SecretKingdom'). The region is still largely undiscovered and yet it’s full of fascinating places to visit. All of the attractions listed below are just a short journey away from our accommodation and you will find lots of local tourist information in our houses to help you plan your visits and we are always on hand to help you see the best of our region during your stay.
North Northumberland is famous for it's ancient castles including Alnwick, the home of the Duke of Northumberland. It is probably better known now as the home of 'Harry Potter' after the castle was used as the backdrop for 'Hogwarts' in the Harry Potter films. The recently opened Alnwick Gardens at the castle are becoming one of the top tourist attractions in the region. Click here for more tourist information in the Alnwick Region www.visitalnwick.org.uk
Bamburgh Castle and the ruined Dunstanburgh Castle on the Heritage Coastline present unbelievably spectacular backdrops to the sandy beaches below them. Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle and Priory can be reached via a causeway at low tide. The Farnes
Islands can be reached from Seahouses on regular boat cruises to view the spectacular bird and seal colonies. All can be reached easily on uncluttered roads through the beautiful countryside between our village and the coast.
If you like hill walking the Cheviot Hills are on our doorstep and to the south of the county you will find Hadrian's Wall a 'World Heritage Site'. The Scottish Borders including the border town of Berwick Upon Tweed are all here and you will find a whole host of activities to keep you busy during your visit. From golf to fishing, cycling and walking, birdwatching or just taking in the atmosphere of the coast and countryside of the UK's most under-populated county. There is something for all and we will make it our business to ensure you have a memorable stay.
